Cultural Dissonance Performance. Burning away a Chinese wishing lantern instead of letting one go into the air. The last time I let one go was when my grandmother passed away years ago. In Chinese culture, we burn things to give to the ones that have passed. This lantern was an apology to her and a cleansing of cultural memory of I have an unwanted attachment to. One side was an attempt of trying to remember how to write my Chinese name, one was an apology to my grandmother, another was an "I don't forgive you" to my parents for past trauma, and the last was what I originally wrote on the first lantern.
